New books

Okay, I went to Border's to pick up my Harry book and I was so close to Paper Source (one of my favorite places and just across the street from Border's about a half block down) and I was looking for new and wonderful things to play with. Just before I was ready to check out, 2 giant books caught my eye. Really giant coloring and doodling/scribbling books. The pages are not numbered so I can't tell you how many pages but they are big. One is a doodles coloring book and the other a scribbling color book, the author is Taro Gomi and he does very child like drawings and then invites you to fill in the rest. You might be thinking, what was I thinking, well, when I saw all the prompts, blank spaces and some very clever options for art, I thought I would add to the pages with my own altering art. For instance, he prompts you to dress figures, put sails on boats, flags on poles, draw children to go with grownups pictures on the pages, there are several great papges of his drawing of people and you fill in the caption balloons and on and on. I said here is a way to experiment with art and to just let go and have a little fun. These are Chronicle Books, Scribbles by Taro Gomi and Doodles by Taro Gomi. Oh, and did I say perfect for all ages 3 to 99? I fit in there somewhere.

Michael Buble

Last night, Joey and I went to the Chicago Auditorium Theatre and were entertained by Michael B. He is so cool and sings like an angel. Seeing someone in person is a wonderful way to spend a few hours away from it all. Wonderful seats, first row balconey and he was so close. He sings all the standards and he has written several numbers he performed. I would go back and see him in a second. Treat yourself to one of his CDs, you won't be disappointed. What a wonderful week end I had with my 3 favorite gut, Joey, Harry and Michael.

Harry's in the House

Harry is in the house. I was at Border's bright and early Saturday morning and picked up my reserved copy. No, I didn't run home to read it, I made a stop at Paper Source to do a little shopping, of course. I will tell you all about the great books I got there in a bit. Any way, I sat right down once I got back home and read Harry in 2 days. Yes, 758 pages in 2 days but that is how involved I get with Harry. My DH was a sweetie and let me read away. He cooked dinner Saturday night and went out running around both days so I could read. Isn't my DH a darling??!?! The book was dark and wonderful and the end was just what I expected. No, I won't tell you will have to read it for yourself or have someone else tell you all about it. I don't want to spoil it for you if you are reading it right now. I hope one day to reread all 7 books. Or I could wait for the rest of the movies!! I always think you get so much more by reading the book than the movies but that's just me. Thank you, Harry, for a great ride and even greater story.

The Girls

How often to you see a picture of yourself that you like alot? Well, I thought I would share this one with you. It's from Mother's day, I know I don't print my pictures fast enough. Anyway, that is my sister, Deborah and my Mom and me celebrating. I would like to think that I celebrate my Mom everyday but I am glad there is a special day for her.

This is a bit of my Mom's yard showing my sister, Deb's fountain and flowers. The angel on the stair is in the top row but not the bottom so I guess I can get 8 different shots. That is my sister chandlier hanging on a planter holder. It is wrapped with little white lights and at night is delightful. Isn't she a clever girl??

Eight Lens Camera

Hope it looks okay on the blog. Cool, right? It is a picture from my balconey and you can see that the houses in the back seem to be larger in the top row and then smaller in the bottom row. That is because I was moving the camera a bit to see if I could truly get 8 different shots.

Hello

Hope your 4th of July was dazzling. Altho fireworks are illegal in Il. the skies were filled with bright fireworks all night long. At the hint of darkness the air was exploding with the colors of the rainbow. I do love this noisy and sparkling holiday so very much.

So now that we have had a few days of sunshine here, I was out with my new camera taking pictures. I hope that the pictures come out. It isn't easy taking the pictures because I am not sure what they will look like until developed. The instructions say that I should note that there will be 8 pic per frame when I get them developed. I guess the clerk can get a bit confused when the film starts to come out of the machine. I will post some here when I get them done.

I had a nice visit with my cousin on Tuesday evening. She lives in Rochester, MN and is helping her daughter, Kat move back to Chicago to live with her best friend, and find work as an artist. I let Donna play with my new camera because she has an incredible eye with a 35 mm, she was confused at first about the camera. I guess she isn't the artsy type but she was clicking away, the good sport she is. She is also selling her town house in Rochester and planning to move to N Carolina. I guess her and her husband have had enough of the cold and snow to last a life time. Good for her and how brave to just move to another city and start again. One daughter is here in Chicago and the other lives in South Hampton, England so there isn't anything to keep them in MN. Of course, she has been researching N. Carolina for a few years, made a visit there recently and started looking for a house. I can only wish her the best and it's a new place for me to visit.

I have a project I must finish so I am off. Have a creative day!

Happy July to everyone. Just in case you need to know the date, here's the July calendar page I did for my sister. What can I say, she is a princess, well really, I call her, Queen Liz. I am sure some of us have a sister like that.
