May Artist Trading Card

The theme for May is 'Make a Joyful Noise' and I can't think of a more joyous noise than the sound of my own ZZZZZZZs. I am a night owl and I don't sleep well at night and I thought, yes, ZZZZZs is my theme. So I put this long, dark haired girl under the covers and let her dream away. I think it's quite amusing.

Artist in Progress

a little collage I did mixing parts from magazine and collage sheets on a background of one of my all time favorite papers showing small watercolors drips of color. I thought that was part of the in progress of an artist such as myself, her defiant look that says I know I can do art and I will not be turned away by the little voice in my head that says 'who are you kidding?' Sound like something you hear, too? Tune out and go with your heart. I just like how it all came together. I guess if the art thing doesn't work out, she can just fly away.

And then...........

If you have a copy of the May/June issue of Cloth, Paper, Scissors there is an article about inch art. Go figure. Yes, Cloth, Paper, Scissors is now being done 6 times a year instead of 4. Whoppeee!!! I think it's loaded with great art and new things I haven't seen before. And although I like the bible of all art magazines, Somerset Studio, it has been a little stuffy lately. However, there have been wonderful, exciting new articles showing up and some by wonderful artists I know. Well I don't know them personally but I look at their blogs regularly for ideas and just to enjoy all the wonderful things they create that aren't in Somerset! These magazines are a connection to all the wonderful artists and artwork that are happening. If you aren't lucky to be part of an artie group the publications out there help you link up to the goings on in our big art world. It boggles the mind at how many magazines I can find at my local Borders on every subject under the sun. So grab a couple of magazines and get inspired. Have a creative day.

Inch Art

I have been cruising about the blogs and, I don't think she will mind if I mention her blog, Art Junk Girl, she has a wonderful addiction to inch art. Lots of little (what I think are) one inch squares of the most fab art piece. I say addiction in a good way because her site has tons of them and she has incorporated the greatest little collage in that small space. I don't believe it. I have a hard time with the atc format that some times I want to pull my hair out and she is doing great art in a smaller space. You go, Art junk Girl!!! Amazing. To all the little square art girls out there, lovely. I might have to try it myself. If I think 2" x 3" is a crazy size, I wonder what I will be thinking at the INCH. Let me say that when the atc craze began, and it's still going wild, I resisted it for as long as I could. The size just throw me for a loop. But I jumped into the deep end, and found I love it now. I even joined an exclusive group of 12 like mind gals in the pursuit. Making atcs (12 of them) every month as made me appreciate the art form. I do make 12 like atcs each month for the exchange but each theme is a challenge and I do love a challenge. I wonder about the fear of the size because I am not known for making large art pieces. One never knows what will hold you back.

Birthday Girl

I feel like celebrating this birthday with a little art. She looks like a girl full of life and ready to celebrate with me. So I wish every May birthday girl a wonderful year fulll of art and inspiration.

May's Muses

I think May is the time for muses, don't you think so? May is my birthday month, the 26th to be exact and I like having the muses around. I guess at times I like to think that there is some outside influence aiding me in my art quest. If so, then the artwork I see on the blogs is enough to confirm that muses might be of a human kind. And for that I am most grateful. I can't tell you how these muses help me visually and in spirit. When I see the art and cleverness, I know that anything is possible and that I can do it, too. Thank you my May muses and all the blog goddess out there.
